Green wheels keep on turning
Unusually chilly weather and threatening skies may have dampened turnout but not the enthusiasm of people attending the Eco-Wheels green vehicle expo, which took place Sunday at Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham.
The event offered visitors the latest information about environmentally friendly vehicle options, including, hybrids, electric and natural gas vehicles. Local dealers as well as representatives from several area environmental nonprofits provided expertise, with several vehicle models on display, including the plug-in electric Tesla Model S and Nissan Leaf, as well as the hybrid Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Honda CR-V.
The event was hosted by the Birmingham-based green living website, mygreenbirmingham.com. Alabama Power’s Electric Transportation group was among the sponsors of the event, which included music, food and kids’ activities.
Natalie Kelly, founder of mygreenbirmingham.com, said green vehicle expos have taken place in other cities, and she wanted to replicate their success in Birmingham. “We definitely want to make this an annual experience, especially as interest grows in our community around alternative transportation and technology.”
