Students at Clark-Shaw Magnet School recently participated in a week-long internship at Alabama Power in Mobile. The eighth grade students were participating in AT&T’s Vital Link program. The program is designed to help students connect what they are learning in school with skills that they will eventually use in the workplace.mobileedu

During their week at Alabama Power, the students and their teacher learned about engineering, business office operations, electrical safety and power delivery, as well as how the company prepares for hurricanes along the Gulf Coast.  The students visited various power company offices throughout Mobile during the Vital Link session. They also kept a daily journal recounting their experiences.

The program helps students understand the importance of skills like communication, mathematics, problem solving and teamwork. It also introduces students to various careers in business and industry.  The program is organized through the Mobile Area Education Foundation.
