Sixty-two schools across the state have advanced to the voting round for a “Power To Play” grant. This new program aims to help high school athletic programs break down barriers to student participation.

Beginning today, the 62 schools will be featured on the Power To Play website, which can also be accessed through the Alabama Power Foundation website, www.powerofgood.com. Supporters can vote for their favorites and keep their schools in the running for a $2,500 grant.

Voting will remain open until Friday, Nov. 21. Grant recipients will be announced Dec. 3.

The Power To Play grant program focuses on the importance of keeping students active in sports. Research shows students who participate in athletics get better grades and are more likely to graduate from high school, among other benefits.football2

A total of 36 schools – six from each of Alabama Power’s territorial divisions – will be awarded grants this year to support their athletic programs.

To be eligible to receive a grant, a school must receive at least 100 votes online.
