Alabama Power is sponsoring the ninth annual Chinese New Year Festival Saturday, Feb. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium. Admission is $2 for adults and free for age 12 and under.
“To celebrate a Chinese tradition that has been over thousands of years, the extravaganza features performances including Chinese martial arts and various musical assemblies by out of state and local artists,” said Amy Chen Schwab, Supply Chain Data Maintenance SCM analyst for Alabama Power.
This year’s festivities will include Chinese food, drink, toys and souvenirs available from local businesses. Students from grades nine to 12 will benefit from Chinese educational games.
“You surely don’t want to miss this fusion of East and West diversity highlight,” Schwab said.
It has become a tradition for the Birmingham Chinese Festival Association (BCFA) to host the Chinese New Year show every year at Boutwell. The BCFA is a nonprofit organization that is committed to serving the metro Birmingham community and helping people learn about Chinese language and culture.
BCFA members have been working closely with the Birmingham Museum of Arts, city of Birmingham and the Birmingham Public Library to deliver a broad spectrum of events to enhance the Chinese cultural experience locally.
