Have you thanked a lineman today?

Perhaps you should.

June 1 is Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day, and a fitting time to remember the hard-working people who answer the call around the clock to keep your power moving. Their “day job” goes unnoticed, but includes all of the maintenance that keeps the system reliable and safe. But when the weather acts up, that’s their time to shine.

No crews experience more kinds of severe weather than Alabama Power crews. From hurricanes to tornadoes, floods to straight-line winds, and ice storms to lightning – they see it all.

It wasn’t that long ago that a late winter blast brought down trees and lines across the northern part of Alabama Power’s coverage area. Lead lineman Rusty Hamm was part of a team working in rural Blount County, to replace a pole that was out of the way and hard to get to.
