Working through the night
Crews are still working through Wednesday night to restore service to customers who lost power in Tuesday’s storm system.
As of 10 o’clock Wednesday, service had been brought back for almost 95% of the 115,000 affected customers, leaving just 6,200 without power. Of those remaining, 5,800 were in metro Birmingham, and another 400 in Jasper and Dora.
More than 1,000 additional line crew personnel were brought in from neighboring states and utilities to help. Work in Walker County should wrap up Thursday, with the last of the customers in the hardest-hit areas getting on in the middle of the afternoon. Work for some customers in the most heavily-damaged areas of Clairmont and Southside in Birmingham, and Homewood, Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills could continue until 10 p.m. Thursday.
