Coach Pearl and the pros delight, enlighten at Barbasol Junior Clinic

About 35 children attended this years Junior Clinic sponsored by Alabama Power as part of the Barbasol Championship. Auburn‘s head basketball coach, Bruce Pearl, as well as pro golfers Will Wilcox and Parker McLachlin spoke about the game and demonstrated some of their skill.

Alabama Power is one of the sponsors out here that also sponsored ‘Fore the Children’ benefiting Children’s Harbor,” said Pearl. “Learning about the game of golf has been really good for the communities and I hope that this tournament hosted by Barbasol is successful in Auburn.”

The children were greeted by members of the Alabama Power team with T-shirts, backpacks and cooling towels. The program highlighted nine virtues practiced in golf that apply to everyday life: honesty, integrity, confidence, perseverance, sportsmanship, responsibility, judgment, courtesy and respect.

“The game of golf is a difficult sport; it’s physical as well as it is mental,” said Wilcox. “It’s a game that teaches you to be within yourself.”

After the demonstrations, children were offered the chance to come up and learn technique from the pros. The Junior Clinic creates opportunities for children of the community to become familiar with golf and hear about the importance of dedication.
