Getting down to the hardest cases

WorkingCrewVisualsforNewsCenter-P-5059-MegMcKinney: Mountain Brook, AL: Alabama Power crews remove and replace utility poles, clear broken cables, and replace, in wooded area of 18 Eden Circle.
Within 24 hours of Tuesday night’s round of severe weather, Alabama Power succeeded in getting more than 91 percent of the 115,000 affected customers restored. And as of 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon, 99 percent were back on the system.
The final 1,100 customers, in the heaviest hit communities “over the mountain” from Birmingham, are on target to have service restored by late Thursday evening, if not sooner.
While the crews and customers alike dealt with extremely warm and muggy conditions, much of the remaining repair work was made more difficult by the amount of damage and the location. Many trouble spots were nestled up hills and down ravines, in areas impassable to bucket trucks and other vehicles.
