Montgomery area children take in trick golf shots, First Tee values

About 1,000 third- to fifth-grade students from Autauga and Elmore counties gathered along the driving range of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Capitol Hill course Tuesday for Alabama Power’s Junior Clinic.

Students were entertained by LPGA professional Brittany Lincicome and PGA professional Dewald Gouws. In addition to trick golf shots and demonstrations of skill, the values of The First Tee were woven throughout the morning. Honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment were stressed by the golfers.

Clay McConnell, Alabama Power’s Prattville Business Office manager, welcomed students and visitors to the free clinic.

“We are happy to be a part of this morning’s event,” he said. “The First Tee program teaches us all the tools to help us be successful, not only on the golf course, but in the classroom or at our jobs.”

The Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic takes place at RTJ-Capitol Hill Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 27-30.
