Can’t Miss Alabama: Finish the summer strong with concerts, great food and soccer

Next week is the beginning of fall, but you can still take advantage of these final summer concerts and activities.

You will not want to miss Haiti vs the U.S. Women’s National Team soccer match at Legion Field in Birmingham Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m. Haiti replaces Australia as the U.S. WNT opponent for the September games in Detroit and Birmingham.

The Saint George Middle Eastern Food Festival is underway. Treat yourself to good food, music, dance and even get in some shopping at this community favorite. Church tours are also available. Dine on baked chicken, meat pie, spinach pie, rolled grape leaves, kibbee, falafel and other dishes. The festival ends Saturday. Visit the Saint George Melkite Greek Catholic Church at 425 16th Avenue South in Birmingham. Festival hours are 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily.

Ariana Grande will perform with Prince Royce at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC Sunday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Her latest hits include “Yours Truly” and “My Everything.” Grande is also known for her work in theatre, television and film. She is a Grammy award nominee.


Atmore’s Taste of the South is Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5 – 8 p.m. on the corner of Main Street and Craig Street in Heritage Park. Experience some of the best food you can eat and enjoy live entertainment. If you are interested in the rich history of Atmore, the Peavy Webb building will be open and filled with information, books and memorabilia for purchase. The event is hosted by the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce.


Come out and celebrate legendary Hank Williams 92nd birthday Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Montgomery. Hank Williams was one of the most powerful and iconic country singers in America. His museum remains one of the state’s top tourist attractions. Join the millions who have paid tribute to this country music superstar.


Finish the summer strong with Van Halen as they rock the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd will accompany Van Halen. The rock group has sold more than 80 million records and remains one of the top 20 best-selling bands in the U.S.
