Finding a cure for cancer is a lofty goal.

But for a dedicated group of Birmingham area women, raising money to fund research by the world-class scientists at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is a meaningful part of their lives.

The women call themselves ROAR, which stands for Regional Oncology Active Research. Recently, the UAB Department of Radiation Oncology gave ROAR members, many of whom wore their signature animal print scarves and blouses, an overview of the department.

The visit revealed exactly how their fundraising efforts are paying off.
