As the race for the White House revs up, it is somewhat appropriate that the starter at quarterback for Auburn tonight at Kentucky is too close to call.
Coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee have said the selection of the Tiger signal-caller for the 6 p.m. kickoff on ESPN will be a game-time decision. The likely choice is junior Jeremy Johnson or redshirt freshman Sean White.
Malzahn said the call will be made “right before we play.” The Wildcats come into the game at 4-1; the Tigers are 3-2.

Saturday, No. 10 Alabama ventures to College Station to face No. 9 Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. on CBS. Sophomore Kyle Allen came on in relief last year when the Crimson Tide blasted the Aggies 59-0. He’ll try to fare better this year as the starter.
Alabama will try to build on the momentum of back to back wins over Georgia and Arkansas.
Here’s the rest of the slate.
OTHER STATE COLLEGES
Idaho at Troy: Through five games, the Trojans have been outscored 32.4 to 20.6. Neal Brown’s 1-4 squad will try to get the upper hand at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Citadel at Samford: The Bulldogs are 1-1 in the Southern Conference. They aim to be above .500 with a 2 p.m. Saturday kickoff.
Jacksonville State at Tennessee Tech: The Gamecocks travel to Cookesville, Tenn., to improve on their 4-1 overall and 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference mark. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
Jackson State at Alabama A&M: The Bulldogs (1-4 overall, 1-2 Southwest Athletic Conference) have sandwiched a single win between two pairs of losses. A&M could even its conference slate at 1 p.m.
Alabama State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff: The Hornets scored 34 second-half points (20 in the fourth quarter) in last week’s 45-34 loss to Southern. Can they keep that momentum going and get off to a strong start at 6:30 p.m. tonight on ESPNU?

Milsaps at Birmingham-Southern: The Panthers won their first three games before dropping the next three. BSC is 1-3 in its conference; Milsaps is 0-3. Kickoff is 2 p.m. Saturday.
Kentucky State at Miles: The Golden Bears have wins in two of their past three games after opening 0-3. Kickoff Saturday is at 4 p.m.
Stillman at Tuskegee: The visiting Tigers (3-2) have won two in a row. The Golden Tigers (5-1) followed their lone loss with a 35-7 win over Morehouse. This cat fight commences at 1 p.m. Saturday.
UNC Pembroke at North Alabama: A 22-20 loss to West Oregon in the Pacific Northwest last week should have the Lions (4-1) roaring and raring to go at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Shorter at West Alabama: The Lions (4-2) are coming off a two-game losing streak on the road. Kickoff is Saturday at 2 p.m.
Tiffin at Concordia: Coming off an 11-0 loss at Ave Maria two weeks ago, the Hornets kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Faulkner at Lindsey Wilson: The Eagles were flying high after winning their first three games. Losses in their past two have them trying to stabilize and gain altitude against the No. 1 team in the country in NAIA. Kickoff Saturday in Columbia, Ky., is at 1:30 p.m.
Huntingdon at LaGrange: After splitting their first two games, the Hawks have won three in a row, including last week’s 56-21 conquest of Ferrum. Kickoff Saturday is at 5 p.m.
