The blue grits turn purple when you cook them, but that seems fitting for the majestic crown of Gulf shrimp that tops the signature dish at Little Savannah in Birmingham.
There is no shortage of shrimp and grits recipes in the South, but the blue grits and the bacon vinaigrette make the dish unique at Little Savannah and earned it a spot on the list of “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die.”
