James Spann: Very mild afternoons continue in Alabama

James Spann Alabama NewsCenter weather forecast for November 27 from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.
WE ARE BLESSED: One look at the mass of rain, ice, and snow west of Alabama and no doubt we can feel blessed this day after Thanksgiving. We project a high at or just over 70 degrees again this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. That is about ten degrees above average for November 27 (Birmingham’s average high today is 61), and about ten degrees shy of record levels (Birmingham’s record high today is 81 set in 1990).
A very sharp cold front is west of the state, over NW Arkansas, East Oklahoma, and North Texas, but that won’t make it in here anytime soon.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Not much change tomorrow; dry weather continues with intervals of sunshine, and a high in the 69-72 degree range. On Sunday we will introduce the chance of rain for far North Alabama; places like Muscle Shoals, Athens, Decatur, and Huntsville, but the rest of the state should remain dry, but mostly cloudy. The high Sunday is expected to be in the upper 60s.
TRAVELERS BEWARE: A flash flood watch is up from Dallas to St. Louis, and ice storm warnings remain in effect for parts of the Texas Panhandle/South Plains into West Oklahoma.
NEXT WEEK: Confidence is low since models are all over the board, but the chance of rain should gradually increase over the northern half of Alabama, followed by cooler air later in the week when highs drop back into the 50s. No doubt the highest rain totals will be near the Tennessee border, elsewhere amounts will be light. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
IRON BOWL: No change in our forecast. A delightful day for football in Auburn tomorrow; about 70 degrees at kickoff (2:30p CT) at Jordan Hare Stadium with a partly sunny sky; temperatures drop into the upper 50s by the final whistle.
