THIS AFTERNOON: The sky is bright and sunny across Northwest Alabama this afternoon, and the clearing line is moving to the southeast as dry air takes over…

With a clear sky tonight, light wind, and wet ground, there is a good chance that dense fog will form tonight, especially after midnight. We should be in the mid 30s by daybreak tomorrow.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Dry, cool weather is the story, with sunny days and clear nights. The high tomorrow will be in the mid 50s tomorrow, upper 50s Friday, and close to 60 over the weekend. The coldest morning will come early Friday, with most communities seeing a low between 31 and 35 degrees. Some of the colder valleys could reach the upper 20s.

NEXT WEEK: A strong short wave will bring a risk of rain back to the state late Monday and Monday night; with limited moisture it looks like rain amounts will be under 1/2 inch. The sky will clear Tuesday, and the rest of the week looks dry with highs around 60, and lows around 40. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the “Super 7” Alabama high school championship games this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. For tonight’s Spain Park/McGill-Toolen 7A game, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 40s. Then, tomorrow and Friday will feature sunny days and clear nights; daytime temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 50s; the night games will feature temperatures in the 40s.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game (Alabama vs Florida) will be played in the Georgia Dome, but for fans headed to the game, the weather outside will be just fine with a good supply of sunshine and an afternoon high around 60 in Atlanta.
