This has been a very good soaking for North/Central Alabama, with most communities seeing at least two inches of rain. Some places across Northeast Alabama report storm totals over three inches.

The rain will continue to end from northwest to southeast this morning, and the clearing process begins this afternoon from that same direction. Today will be cooler with temperatures holding in the 50s all day.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: These two days will be cool and dry with sunny days and clear nights; highs will be in the mid to upper 50s, with early morning lows in the 30s. Some communities will see freezing temperatures early Friday morning.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: No real change in the weather; dry conditions continue Saturday and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Highs will be around 60 degrees, with early morning lows between 35 and 40 degrees. Pretty close to seasonal averages for early December.

NEXT WEEK: A rather vigorous short wave will move over the state Monday, but moisture will be limited. We will forecast a good chance of showers with that feature, then the rest of the week looks rain-free with temperatures not far from average values; highs in the 58-62 degree range, with lows in the low 40s. FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the “Super 7” Alabama high school championship games this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. For tonight’s Spain Park/McGill-Toolen 7A game, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 50 at kickoff, into the low 40s by the final whistle. Then, tomorrow and Friday will feature sunny days and clear nights; daytime temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 50s; the night games will feature temperatures in the 40s.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game (Alabama vs Florida) will be played in the Georgia Dome, but for fans headed to the game, the weather outside will be just fine with a good supply of sunshine and an afternoon high around 60 in Atlanta.
