Families continued their recovery from the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day storms this morning as Alabama Power completed restoration in the tornado-damaged areas.
Among the hardest hit were Birmingham’s Hillman Station community and Midfield. There, a tornado snapped two dozen power poles, destroyed homes and scattered belongings.
Alabama Power crews from as far away as Montgomery and Mobile joined Birmingham-area crews and contract crews in a show of force to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
Alabama Power on Saturday night completed restoring service to all of the homes and businesses able to receive power.
Many spent the day Saturday assessing damage and trying to recover belongings. Alabama NewsCenter photographer and videographer Wynter Byrd documented the restoration efforts.

Elsewhere, Alabama Power has opened spillways at its dams as waters at lakes hit summer levels.
New concerns will arise today as the threat of more bad weather is forecast for Monday.
