The Alabama Center for Real Estate is set to present its 16th annual Alabama Commercial Real Estate Conference later this month.
The conference, which will take place at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham on Jan. 29, will feature a variety of speakers on issues ranging from new construction standards to efforts to bring more tech jobs to the state.

The 2016 National and Alabama Commercial Real Estate Outlook, which will kick off the conference at 8:30 in the morning, will feature and all-star lineup of Alabama real estate heavy hitters that will include Jeffrey Bayer (Bayer Properties), Robert Simon (Corporate Realty), Mike Graham (Graham & Co.), Bill Dobbins (The Dobbins Group) and Chad Hagwood (Capital One).
Christopher Lee, who brings over three decades of experience within the commercial real estate industry, will lead the morning session with a 30-minute presentation on the 2016 outlook for the industry.
Lee will then bring the panel to the stage to discuss trends and expectations for the commercial real estate industry for 2016.
Members of the panel include a who’s who list of commercial real estate developers, brokers and lenders who serve the entire state of Alabama.
Jeffrey Bayer, president and CEO of Bayer Properties, founded the real estate development company in 1983 and has grown the Birmingham-based firm from a local property management company to a national player in real estate development. Aside from developing major projects on the local level like The Summit shopping mall, the Pizitz building and the Uptown Entertainment district, Bayer Properties has developed real estate across the nation, including the recently announce The Summit shopping center in Kentucky.
Robert Simon, president of Birmingham’s Corporate Realty, brings extensive experience in real estate brokerage and development, including Regions Field, one of downtown Birmingham’s most impactful projects of the past decade. The Chicago native is a Lifetime Member of the Birmingham Association of Realtors, a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club, and was once NAIOP’s Office Broker of the Year and Office Development of the Year. Recently, it was announced that Corporate Realty would be the developer of HealthSouth’s new Birmingham headquarters.
Mike Graham, president of Birmingham’s Graham & Co., heads the firm’s commercial real estate division and has extensive experience in sales, leasing and development. Graham is a founding member, along with his father and brother, of the company, which began in 1978. He is the past president of the Alabama chapters of Society of Industrial & Office Realtors, Institute of Real Estate Management and National Association of Industrial & Office Properties. Graham holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Emory University.
Bill Dobbins, managing principal of The Dobbins Group, a Birmingham-based development company, began his career as a real estate banker where he originated hundreds of millions of dollars in commercial real estate loans. In 2001, Dobbins joined Arlington Properties, where he worked to source large-scale development and investment opportunities for the real estate developer. In 2010, Dobbins founded The Dobbins Group and has served as principal of the company since that time.
Chad Hagwood is senior vice president at Capital One, where he is involved in the origination of multifamily manufactured home community and commercial real estate debt and focuses on loan origination through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, CMBS and FHA programs. Hagwood has closed in excess of $7 billion in commercial real estate transactions. Hagwood previously served as executive vice president of origination at Beech Street before Capital One acquired it during 2013. Hagwood was named one of Birmingham’s Top 40 Under 40 by the Birmingham Business Journal during 2002.
