Alabama Power is partnering with the city of Birmingham on a project to upgrade company-owned streetlights to LED fixtures across the city. The project is expected to take less than three years to complete.

City and Alabama Power officials are working on an agreement for implementation of the lighting plan. In this plan, company-owned streetlights in Birmingham city limits will be upgraded to LED fixtures.

“This collaboration between the city of Birmingham and Alabama Power shows how great of an impact we can have when local government and the private sector partner together. Through this project, we are excited to continue to advance the revitalization of the city of Birmingham,” said Jonathan Porter, Alabama Power Birmingham Division vice president.

LEDs are more energy efficient, reduce maintenance (no bulbs to replace) and provide better lighting quality.

Work is expected to begin this spring and the estimated completion date is December 2018.
