The sky is mostly cloudy, and temperatures in the 50s. Clouds will cover much of the state today, and we will maintain the risk of a few scattered showers, but the air is relatively dry and stable, so rain amounts, if any, will be light and spotty. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 60s. A CAD (cold air damming) pattern will keep far East Alabama a bit cooler.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will begin the day tomorrow with clouds over most of the state, and maybe even a touch of light rain or drizzle in spots during the morning. Then, expect gradual clearing tomorrow afternoon as an upper ridge begins to build. The high tomorrow should be in the 65-70 degree range for most communities. Then, Sunday will feature a sunny sky with a high in the mid 70s.

NEXT WEEK: Warm, dry weather is the story Monday through Wednesday with afternoon highs at or just over 80 degrees. We will introduce the chance of showers and storms Thursday and Friday as an upper trough approaches, but for now it doesn’t look like a severe weather threat. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

SPRING FOOTBALL IN TUSCALOOSA: After morning clouds, the sky should become partly sunny during the “A-Day” game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa tomorrow (2:00p CT kickoff), with temperatures rising to near 70 degrees during the game.

AT THE BEACH: A few showers remain possible today, but the weather looks dry tomorrow through early next week from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs mostly in the 70s; the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 67 degrees. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA: The big event is coming up at the Barber Motorsports Park April 22-24… for now it looks like Friday (April 22) will be mostly cloudy and mild with a chance of showers and storms, but conditions will gradually trend drier for Saturday and Sunday (April 23-24). Highs 77-80 degrees. Get ticket information here.

FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY: The “forgotten” tornado outbreak of April 15, 2011. A total 45 tornadoes touched down in our state, killing seven people; the deaths came in Marengo, Autauga, and Washington Counties. An EF-3 tornado moved through the southern and eastern part of Tuscaloosa. This event would be overshadowed later in the month by the generational tornado outbreak on April 27.
