RADAR CHECK: Rain and storms will move into Northwest Alabama over the next few hours…
We do note a tornado warning was issued by the NWS Memphis for parts of Calhoun, Chickawaw, and Pontotoc counties in Mississippi… but we do not expect organized severe weather in Alabama tonight. The MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) will move east/southeast, and most places will see 1-2 hours of rain tonight, with amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch.
THE WEEKEND: A moist environment will continue over Alabama, and we will need to mention the chance of a few passing showers or thunderstorms both tomorrow and Sunday. It is almost impossible to provide start/stop times for the rain both days; just be ready for the occasional shower or thunderstorm. On the positive side, we don’t expect any organized severe weather, and the sun should break out at times. Highs will be in the mid 80s tomorrow, and low 80s Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: Monday and Tuesday are looking wet at times, with periods of rain likely both days. Then, dry air returns Wednesday through Friday with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs will be in the 70s most of the week; we could drop into the 40s late in the week by early Friday morning.
RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: For tomorrow and Sunday, expect a mix of sun and clouds both days with the risk of a passing shower or storm from time to time. Unfortunately in this pattern, we aren’t able to give specific times when the rain will pass through, but the good news is that we don’t expect a big rain mass to set in for hours. A very good chance they get the Sparks Energy 300 in on Saturday, and the GEICO 500 in on Sunday, but a delay is very possible both days. Keep an eye on radar.
And, please remember the 8 mile lightning rule. Lightning within 8 miles, you get inside. Car, truck, building, etc. I don’t mess around with it, and you shouldn’t either.
AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine tomorrow on the coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores with only a small risk of a shower. Scattered showers and storms are possible Sunday and Monday… highs in the 70s on the immediate coast, with 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
