James Spann: Alabama is about to get warm and muggy

James Spann: Get set for a warm, humid day with a few scattered showers from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.
RADAR CHECK: We have some rain on radar as the day begins. A few moderate showers are over East Alabama in the broad zone from Anniston to Opelika.
This will probably be the most rain we see on radar all day; a few showers are possible this afternoon, but they should be widely separated. Otherwise, today will be warm and humid with a mix of sun and clouds. The high this afternoon will be in the 81- to 84-degree range for most places.
TOMORROW/THURSDAY: Not much change. Warm, muggy weather conditions continue. Some sun both days, and just the risk of isolated showers or storms, mainly during the afternoon and evening. Highs mostly in the low 80s.
FRIDAY: A wave of low pressure will approach from the west, and showers and thunderstorms become widespread across the state by afternoon, continuing Friday night. This looks like a good rain event with high PWAT (precipitable water) values; totals of 1 to 2 inches look likely statewide. On the positive side, the risk of severe weather looks fairly low. A decent chance we won’t get out of the 70s Friday due to clouds and showers.
THE WEEKEND: The wave moves east of Alabama Saturday. We will forecast a clearing sky with just the chance of a lingering shower in spots. Then, Sunday looks delightful, with ample sunshine and a high between 77 and 80, along with lower humidity.
NEXT WEEK: Dry weather will continue through Monday and Tuesday with highs in the 80s.
AT THE BEACH: Today will be mostly cloudy with a good chance of showers and storms on the coast from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores; then, about four to six hours of sunshine tomorrow and Thursday with scattered storms. After a relatively wet day Friday, the weekend will trend drier with increasing amounts of sunshine and fewer showers. Highs will be around 80 degrees. See a detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club Wednesday through the weekend. A shower is possible tomorrow and Thursday, but most of those two days should be dry. The best chance of showers and storms will come on Friday, but I still expect them to get some golf in, especially during the morning. Then, the weather trends drier for the weekend; only a small risk of a shower Saturday, followed by a sunny sky Sunday. Highs will generally be in the low 80s, although upper 70s are expected Friday due to clouds and showers. Get more information about the tournament here.
SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Coming up at the Hoover Met May 24-29. It’s too early for a specific forecast, but in late May in Alabama average highs are in the 80s, and many days are pretty humid like summer.
