RADAR CHECK: We have just a few isolated showers across North/Central Alabama at daybreak…

The overall weather won’t be much different from yesterday; a mix of sun and clouds, warm, and humid with a high in the low 80s. The chance of any one spot seeing rain today is about one in five.

TOMORROW: The chance of a shower tomorrow is even smaller; expect a partly sunny sky with a high in the low 80s. Any showers will be few and far between.

FRIDAY: A surface wave/upper trough will bring widespread showers and storms to Alabama. Although rain is possible at any time during the day, it seems like the highest coverage will come during the afternoon and evening hours. It looks like a good soaking, with rain amounts in the 1-2 inch range for most places.

We note SPC has defined a “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for about the southern two-thirds of the state…

A few storms Friday afternoon could produce small hail and gusty winds, but the overall severe weather threat is pretty low with weak shear values and wind fields.

THE WEEKEND: Drier air rolls in Saturday; the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny, and I think we can drop that small risk of a lingering shower. And, Sunday will be a day with a good supply of sunshine along with lower humidity. The high both days will be close to 80 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Warm, dry weather continues Monday and Tuesday with a slow warming trend… a few scattered showers could show up later in the week, but for now it looks like nothing widespread. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Big weekend ahead at Gulf Shores with the Hangout Music Festival. The biggest rain issue will come Friday and Friday night, when showers and storms are likely, but the weekend looks fine with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday (just a small risk of a stray shower Saturday). Highs will be close to 80 degrees. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition kicks off today at the Greystone Golf and Country Club… Just a small risk of a shower today and Thursday… these two days should be generally dry with a mix of sun and clouds. The best chance of showers and storms will come on Friday. Then, the weather will be dry over the weekend with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Highs will generally be in the low 80s, although upper 70s are expected Friday due to clouds and showers. Get more information about the tournament here.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Coming up at the Hoover Met May 24-29… the weather looks warm and dry Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (May 24-26); a few scattered showers are possible Friday and over the weekend (May 27-29), but for now we see nothing to suggest anything really widespread. Highs will be in the 80s. Get information about the big event here.
