Members of the American Legion Post 2011 in Lake View spent Memorial Day weekend planting American flags on the graves of hundreds of service members throughout western Jefferson County and northeastern Tuscaloosa County.

It was a scene duplicated by American Legion posts along with other veteran organizations at cemeteries throughout the state and country.

“By honoring the dead, we honor this country and the values they lived for, fought for, and many died defending,” said Billy Howard, post commander for Lake View Post 2011 of the American Legion.

Alabama NewsCenter joins these organizations in wishing a happy Memorial Day to everyone, but especially to the families and friends of the fallen throughout the state.
