School’s out and the kids are already bored, but Can’t Miss Alabama has the fix. Check these tips to plan your summer escapade.

Embrace summer at Slide the City in Vestavia Hills June 25

Beat the heat at the 1,000-foot Slide the City on Saturday, when kids and adults can take their turns at slip-sliding fun. Inflatable rafts are required on the padded slide. All sliders must be at least 5 years old and 46 inches tall. Get your fill of slides for $60. The event at 2235 Lime Rock Road includes live music and food, with parking at Vestavia Hills High School.

See ‘An American in Paris’ at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham June 26

Immerse yourself in 1950s Paris at the Alabama Theatre on Sunday with “An American in Paris,” one of MGM’s most celebrated musicals. The movie features Gene Kelly in a love story set to music and dance.

The two-hour movie starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 at Ticketmaster and at the door an hour before the show.

It’s bluegrass time under the shade trees in Rogersville June 24-25

Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets, and settle in as the sounds of bluegrass music fill the air at Rogersville Recreation Park June 24-25. The Shades of Bluegrass Festival celebrates bluegrass, shade tree jamming, dancing, food, and arts and crafts.

Friday’s show is 6 to 10 p.m., with $8 admission. Saturday’s show is from noon to 10 p.m. with $10 admission, or $15 for both days. Call the city of Rogersville at 256-247-5446 for details.

Whoop it up with Brantley Gilbert at The Wharf at Orange Beach June 26

Enjoy some down-home music during the “Take it Outside Tour” from country artist Brantley Gilbert at The Wharf at Orange Beach on June 26. Gilbert embraces the “outlaw country side of things,” with a little bit of rock and swagger from Southern rockers such as Lynyrd Skynyrd. Country stars Justin Moore and Colt Ford will join Gilbert during the 7 p.m. show at The Wharf, 4550 Main St. in Orange Beach.

Click here for general admission tickets priced $20.75 to $59.75 or call 800-745-3000.

Ride in the Cycling for Sight fund-raiser at Wind Creek Montgomery Hotel on June 25

Take part in Cycling for Sight – a 22-, 43-, 72- or 102-mile fun ride – to benefit charities of the Montgomery Lions Club Community Foundation. The ride commemorates Alabama native Helen Keller’s fight in the crusade against darkness, benefitting the Ability Sport Network at Huntingdon College, which serves youth and young adults with physical disabilities.

Onsite registration is $75. All events start at 7 a.m. at Wind Creek Montgomery Hotel at 1801 Eddie L. Tullis Road.
