Smile! You’ve got a bright weekend ahead with these tips for fun and entertainment.

See Red Mountain Theatre‘s showing of ‘The Little Mermaid‘ in Birmingham through Aug. 7   

In a magic kingdom under the sea, the lovely mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home for a more exciting world above. Watch “The Little Mermaid” come to life at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA), presented by the Red Mountain Theatre Company.

Tickets start at $30 for ages 13 and up, and children 2 to12 start at $29.

Weekend shows are Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Giddy up oom poppa mow mow with the Oak Ridge Boys country and gospel quartet in Birmingham Aug. 6

Make a date with country and gospel’s legendary Oak Ridge Boys in the round at the Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

A delicious dinner at one of nearby Uptown‘s restaurants will whet your appetite for the concert. The BJCC is at 1001 19th Street North. Click for tickets.

Ride on over to the Fairview Annual Car and Tractor Show in Cullman Aug. 6

For big fun, take in Fairview High School’s annual Car and Tractor Show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy good food, fun and close-up views of Alabama’s classiest antique cars and trucks.

This free event, a fundraiser for Fairview High School‘s marching band, is at Cullman’s Fairview Community Park. Call 256-531-2548 for details.

Beat the heat with ‘First Sunday’ at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts  

If summer’s heat is getting to you, take a cool break at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts on Sunday afternoon.

Take a docent-led tour — both fun and educational — of the museum’s world-class, permanent collection. It’s all free at 1 p.m.

See Old Alabama Town’s ‘Ageless Designs, New Hands’ show through Aug. 19

For those who love the best of everything, there’s nothing better than a taking a gander at Henry Frazer’s beautiful, hand-crafted furniture. This Montgomery native’s specialty is early American Colonial-style furniture.

Throughout the decades, Frazer searched antique shops, museums and publications seeking cabinets to reproduce. Frazer’s exhibit includes more than 50 period pieces made from numerous varieties of wood.

The show is at the Loeb Reception Center, 301 Columbus Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
