Back in 2004, in a Red Mountain Theatre Company (RMTC) production of “Annie,” Alie B. Gorrie and Nicole Lamb played orphans July and Molly, their beds side-by-side.

This week, the two will be sharing the stage once again, making their debuts at New York’s acclaimed 54 Below, a cabaret theater that has featured the likes of Patti LuPone, Chita Rivera, Ben Vereen and many others.

They’re part of a show called “Carded,” featuring performers who have worked for Theatreworks USA, which produces theater for young audiences. Gorrie appeared in the group’s national tour of “Seussical” and Lamb is understudying the lead in Theatreworks’ off-Broadway “Junie B.’s Essential Survival Guide to School.”

“The concert is called ‘Carded’ because Theatreworks’ contracts give a lot of actors their Equity cards,” says Gorrie, referring to membership in the Actors Equity union. “Joining Equity opens up many doors as a professional actor, and we are all so thankful for this opportunity.”

Gorrie, 23, and Lamb, who turned 22 on Aug. 13,  performed in RMTC ensembles and in a number of shows for the theater troupe. Gorrie, a Mountain Brook High School graduate, has graduated from Belmont University. Lamb is a Vestavia Hills High School graduate. They both live in New York.

“They are two talents I had the pleasure of working with when they were children,” says Keith Cromwell, executive director of RMTC. “I knew instantly they had the talent, drive and tenacity to find a place for themselves in the business of show business.”

Gorrie and Lamb have been friends since their RMTC days.

“We hit it off in ‘Annie’,” Lamb says. “I was one of the youngest in the show, and Alie B. had been involved with RMTC a little longer, so she made sure to watch out for me. I am still thankful for her.”

Both actresses have already had busy careers – Gorrie off-Broadway in the shows “Pinkalicious” and “Flight School” and Lamb in the off-Broadway production and national tour of “The Berenstain Bears Live!” – but 54 Below is another level.

“I am so excited to be making my debut at 54 Below,” Lamb says. “It’s such an amazing space, and so many talented people have performed there, so getting this opportunity is an honor.”

Gorrie agrees. “I am just overflowing with excitement to sing where some of my idols have sung,” she says.

Both young women are committed to performing careers.

“Theater is definitely something I am, and always have been, passionate about,” Lamb says. “I love performing in any capacity, so I am definitely open and interested in television and film as well.”

Living in New York opens up all of those opportunities, Gorrie says.

“Being in the city is so wonderful, because there are so many opportunities to perform, collaborate with other artists on new work and create work of your own,” she says.

“Carded,” at Feinstein’s/54 Below, will be presented Tuesday, Aug. 16. Tickets: 54below.com or 646-476-3551.
