The hiring event is free and open to everyone. The Wiregrass job fair is being hosted by the Alabama Career Center System in partnership with WDFX Fox 34 News and the city of Dothan.

Employers scheduled to attend include Army Fleet Support, Michelin, Schneider Trucking, Academy Sports and Regions Bank. See a full list of employers at the Dothan hiring event.

“All of these employers have open positions to fill – it’s one of our requirements to participate,” said Fitzgerald Washington, secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor.  “That means that there are more than 800 available positions at the event.

“I’d like to encourage anyone who’s looking for a job or looking for a different job to come out and visit with these employers,” he said.

Job seekers are advised to pre-register online. Pre-registering allows for faster entry into the event. Participants are strongly encouraged to print their confirmation and bring it with them to the job fair or to save the confirmation email on their phones.

Applicants should bring their résumés, be prepared to interview and be dressed professionally. Interview space will be provided.

“Helping our citizens find jobs and providing them with more opportunities is priority No. 1 for us,” Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz said. “This job fair will do just that, and we encourage everyone who needs a job to join us.

“This is a special opportunity for our citizens to have so many businesses together who have immediate job openings. Let’s make the most of it,” Schmitz said.

High priority

Dozens of people attended a job preparation workshop held prior to the job fair. Staff from the Dothan Career Center, along with other workforce development partners, coached applicants in résumé preparation, interview skills and how to dress for the workplace.

The Alabama Career Center System’s mobile career center, along with staff from the Dothan Career Center and other area career centers, will be at the Wiregrass regional job fair to assist job seekers.

Gov. Robert Bentley will also attend the event. Bentley has emphasized job creation as a priority of his administration, creating the Alabama Workforce Council to foster collaboration between government, industry and education.

Washington said the Region 6 Workforce Development Council provided important support for the Dothan event. Region 6 consists of Butler, Crenshaw, Pike, Barbour, Covington, Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva and Houston counties.
