Individuals, educational institutions, churches, civic and youth groups and businesses are invited to be a part of this community initiative and adopt a section of Lake Martin’s shoreline or an Alabama Power Company island. Volunteers who adopt a portion of the shoreline or an island will help to maintain the beauty of the lake.

“We are extremely proud to have Alabama Power Company and Russell Lands as sponsors,” said John Thompson, president of the association. “The early, enthusiastic response we have received from Lake Martin lovers gives us a great opportunity to coordinate their efforts with our neighbors.”

“The Treasured Mile Program is a great opportunity for those who love and appreciate Lake Martin to make meaningful contributions toward the scenic and environmental preservation of the lake for current and future generations,” said Rhett Hanks, lake manager for Alabama Power Company.

Volunteers also have an opportunity to help remove trash from the lake during the Renew Our Rivers Lake Martin cleanup Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5. Volunteers should report at 8 a.m. each day to the Wind Creek Park Marina, Kowaliga Boat Ramp or Blue Creek Marina.

This Renew Our River cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, the Lake Martin Resource Association, Russell Lands, Advanced Disposal, Wind Creek State Park and TowBoatU.S. Lake Martin.
