Nothing was recorded at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport, so today is the 47th consecutive day with no measurable rain in Birmingham, and there is a chance we beat the 1924 record streak of 52 rain-free days in a row next Thursday.

THE WEEKEND: Sunny, pleasant days and clear, cool nights. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For round one of the high school playoff games tonight, the weather will be clear and cool, with temperatures falling into the 50s.

Auburn will host Vanderbilt tomorrow (11 a.m. kickoff). It will be a perfect day for football, with a sunny sky. Temperatures will climb from 68 at kickoff to near 74 by the fourth quarter.

Alabama will be on the road playing LSU tomorrow night (7 p.m. kickoff). The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling into the 60s. A great night for football.

TIME CHANGE: Don’t forget we go back on standard time this weekend. Set the clocks back one hour before you go to bed tomorrow night. On Sunday, sunrise will come at 6:11 a.m. and sunset will be at 4:50 p.m.

NEXT WEEK: There is considerable model madness concerning the chance of rain returning next week. The 12Z GFS and ECMWF are generally dry through Friday, but the GFS shows a big rain/storm event for Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Euro, however, is dry through Monday, Nov. 14. As the long-awaited pattern flip begins, models will struggle with specific weather details in the medium range, so there is very little confidence in a specific solution now.

Confidence remains high in rain-producing systems returning to Alabama after mid-November; the European ensemble output still suggests more than 5 inches of rain.
