Woodlawn Street Market

Are you looking for a fun way to shop? The Woodlawn Street Market is back for its fifth season. Support more than 80 local vendors in the heart of historic Woodlawn. Marketgoers will find art, jewelry, clothing, produce, children’s book and toys. Live entertainment and dancers are included.

Funky Fun Run

Come dressed in your best wigs, tie-dye and retro wear for the annual Funky Fun Run on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Veterans Park in Hoover. The proceeds will benefit The Autism Society of Alabama to improve services for the 50,000 Alabamians on the autism spectrum through education and advocacy. Join us for a fun afternoon supporting a worthwhile cause for Autism Awareness Month.

Participation is $35 and registration is open until the start of the event.

CahabaQue BBQ Cook-off

The CahabaQue BBQ Cook-off is Saturday, April 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cahaba Brewing Company. Entertainment includes a barbecue competition, live music and a kid’s zone. Participants can vote for the best-tasting barbecue. The winning individual or team will take home a trophy and cash prizes. The proceeds will support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

Mobile Spring Fling Music Festival

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Mobile Spring Fling Music Festival Saturday, April 7 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds. Guest artists are Franky, Lebrado, Sir Charles, Tucka, Wendell B, Jeff Floyd, Fat Daddy, Case, Lenny Williams, Summer Wolfe, Ida Lee and others.

Kevin Hart’s Irresponsible Tour at BJCC Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m.

Kevin Hart’s “Irresponsible Tour” is Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Hart, who is a comedian and actor, is known for his roles in “Think Like a Man,” “Ride Along” and the sequel “Ride Along 2.”

Taylor Hicks in concert

Taylor Hicks, a Birmingham native, will perform at the Lyric Theatre on Friday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Hicks, an American Idol winner, is known for “Takin it to the Streets” and “Do I Make You Proud.”

Cajun Cook-off

Treat yourself to the 8th annual Cajun Cook-off Saturday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Railroad Park. The event offers performances by Swamp Poppas, a silent auction and children’s activities. More than 20 teams will compete in the Cajun taste-testing contest. Enjoy an array of Cajun food, which includes gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, po‘boys, shrimp and grits, and desserts.

Teams will compete for a trophy or the Team Spirit and People’s Choice awards.

The proceeds will go to Girls Inc. of Central Alabama. Tickets are $25 and children 12 and under are free.

IndiaFest 2018

Alabama Asian Cultures & Food Festival

The 10th annual Alabama Asian Cultures & Food Festival is Saturday, April 7 from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Learn about Asian cultures through artistic performances, foods and cultural heritage booths. Authentic Asian costumes can be seen in a fashion show featuring children and adults. Enjoy performing artists from a variety of countries: China, Indonesia, Japan, India among others. Local restaurants and chefs will offer samples of Chinese, Korean, Indian, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisines. ‘Wilson Pickett: 25 at the Top’

The city of Prattville and the Prattville Creative and Performing Arts Council are celebrating the late Wilson Pickett at its music and arts festival through Saturday, April 14. Pickett, a Prattville native, was a multi-award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Learn about Pickett’s life through music, memorabilia and exhibits.

2018 Druid City Arts Festival

The Druid City Arts Festival is Saturday, April 7 at the Government Plaza in Tuscaloosa. More than 80 artists will showcase two-dimensional, clay, glass, metal, sculpture and fiber artwork, jewelry and literature at the festival. Live entertainment includes the Alabama Blues Project, Matt Jones, The Bonaires and Drum Nation.

Festival of Tulips

Festival of Tulips is underway through April 7 at American Village. Choose from more than 100,000 tulips, including “Big Red,” “Best Red,” “Kingsblood,” “Best Pink,” “Menton” and “Pink Squared.” The event will offer colonial games and other family-friendly entertainment. Tulips and bulbs are $1.50 each. Cameras are welcome.

Mount Laurel Spring Festival

Celebrate the spring season in Mount Laurel at the Spring Festival Saturday, April 7. A street fair, food trucks, local restaurants, pop-up booths and children’s activities are among the events planned.
