Joe and After 7 will perform in concert Mother’s Day
Singer and songwriter Joe will perform live in concert Sunday, May 13 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. “I Wanna Know” and “More and More” are some of Joe’s hit songs. The concert will include a performance by After 7, a rhythm and blues group. After 7 are the siblings of Grammy-award winner, singer and songwriter, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. After 7 is known for hit songs “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop.”
The doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m.

Decorators’ ShowHouse
The Decorators’ ShowHouse is one of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s largest annual fundraisers. This year’s home is on Cherokee Road in Mountain Brook. The 2018 ShowHouse sits on 2 acres and has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and a pool. The event is through Sunday, May 13 (Mother’s Day).
Tickets are $25.
Parking for the event will be at the Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church at 3405 Brookwood Road in Birmingham. Shuttle service is provided to the house.
Prattville CityFest
There is something for everyone at the Prattville CityFest May 11-12 in the Daniel Pratt Historic District. The Bama Breeze Band will perform at 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Jeff & The Johnsons will perform from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. The Tip Tops of Mobile will perform from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Nonmusical fun includes arts and crafts and children’s activities, which includes pony rides and a petting zoo. The hours are Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets are $2 and children age 5 and under are free.

Buck Creek Festival
Have a great weekend of fun at the 17th annual Buck Creek Festival May 11-12 at the Helena Amphitheater Park. Entertainment includes a rubber duck race, music, food, arts and crafts and children’s activities. Thousands of ducks will take the plunge on the banks of Buck Creek, but only one will emerge as the winner. Admission is free. Only service animals are allowed. The hours are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Fire on the Mountain BBQ Cook-Off and Spring Festival
Arab resident and American Idol contestant, Brandon Elder, will perform at Fire on the Mountain Saturday May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Arab City Park. Follow this link for the complete lineup. The festival runs May 11-12 with a barbecue cook-off, arts and crafts and other activities. The proceeds will go to the Tri-County and Four C Volunteer Fire departments.

Art in the Park
Thousands are expected to attend Art in the Park May 12-13 in downtown Foley. The two-day juried fine arts festival will feature more than 100 Southern artists and local art students. The festivities include hands-on demonstrations, food and music.

Homestead Hollow Spring Arts and Crafts Festival
Springville’s Homestead Hollow Spring Arts and Crafts Festival is May 11-13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Demonstrations of blacksmithing, wood stove cooking, quilting, soap making, whiskey making, antique and vintage products will show what it was like to be a pioneer and early settler. Entertainment includes live music, face painting and children’s activities. Adult tickets are $8, children ages 3 to 12 are $4 and age 2 and under are free. Homestead Hollow is located at 1161 Murphrees Valley Road in Springville.

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra Presents: Celebrate Alabama
Alabama dares to sing as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) travels the state in this musical. Students will sing along as the ASO explores the rich diversity of Alabama’s historic and musical tradition.Conducted by Chris Confessore and featuring special guest, Bobby Horton, the ASO provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the instruments that make up the orchestra and explore how composers express their different ideas in music.
The concert is May 11 at 1 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater at Troy University.

Volunteers needed for the Birmingham Heart Walk 5K/1-mile walkers
Let’s Walk! Grab your gym shoes and hit the pavement on Saturday, June 9 at Railroad Park in Birmingham to support the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association. The event begins with heart-healthy educational activities, a warmup at 7 a.m. and the walk/run begins promptly at 7:30 a.m.
