RADAR CHECK: We have a few small, isolated showers and thunderstorms across Alabama today, but most locations are dry with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Temperatures are in the 87- to 90-degree range for most communities, and the isolated showers will fade away once the sun goes down.

REST OF THE WEEK: A quiet weather pattern continues with few, if any, afternoon showers each day. Look for mostly sunny days and fair nights; the high will be back in the 87- to 90-degree range Wednesday, close to 90 Thursday and in the low 90s Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Same forecast — lots of sunshine Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low 90s. We can’t rule out a few afternoon showers or storms, but they should be very isolated.

NEXT WEEK: Moisture levels will rise, so humidity levels come up, and each day we will mention the usual chance of random, scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, expect partly sunny days and fair nights with highs in the low 90s, right at seasonal averages for mid-August in Alabama.

ISAIAS MOVING QUICKLY: Isaias is now a tropical depression over New England, headed for eastern Canada, where it will dissipate by Thursday. The system has produced lots of wind, rain and a few tornadoes over the Mid-Atlantic region this afternoon.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS: Invest 94L, well southwest of Bermuda, is fighting dry air, and the National Hurricane Center now gives it only a 20% chance of any development over the next five days. The rest of the tropics are quiet.

ON THIS DATE IN 2009: The strongest tornado to hit Quebec since the same date in 1994 ripped through Mont-Laurier. The F2 tornado tore through the small western Quebec town, severely damaging about 40 homes. Two men were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
