Denmark-based Mountain Top Industries, which specializes in aluminum roll covers for pickup trucks, plans to open a 73,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Montgomery as the company expands into the U.S. market.

Mountain Top Industries announced that it will invest $13.3 million to open the state-of-the-art facility along Interstate 85 in the Montgomery Industrial Park at 655 Industrial Park Blvd. The site will support 90 full-time jobs with an annual payroll of nearly $3.4 million.

Henrik Petersen, Mountain Top’s chief operations officer, said the company is excited to open the Alabama manufacturing facility as it continues to expand into new markets.

“Mountain Top is a leading global manufacturer of aluminum roll covers designed and branded specifically for our automotive OEM pickup truck customers,” Petersen said. “We are incredibly grateful for the amount of support we have received from both state and local officials in making this project a reality and will work hard on making it a success for our valued customers, employees, suppliers and local community.“

Growth plans

Mountain Top has 40 years of experience in the automotive industry and has developed many long-lasting relationships with auto vehicle manufacturers. Besides design and production facilities in Denmark, Mountain Top has locations in Australia and Thailand.

“As a quality-driven company that’s building a global presence for its innovative and stylish truck accessories, Denmark-based Mountain Top Industries is a welcome addition to Alabama’s auto industry,” said Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “Montgomery is an ideal choice for Mountain Top’s new industrial home in the U.S., and we look forward to helping the company grow and thrive.”

Mountain Top said its products are designed and engineered to perform in extreme environments.

“We know that pickup truck owners, as an extension of their DNA, expect high-performance, quality products to suit the style and durable nature of their vehicles,” said Timothy Bruce, plant manager of Mountain Top’s Montgomery facility. “Our covers are built to withstand the toughest scrutiny and keep performing even in the harshest environments.”

Local support

Elton Dean, chairman of the Montgomery County Commission, said Mountain Top is a great addition to the 300-acre Montgomery Industrial Park, where the company will serve as a supplier for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama’s new Santa Cruz crossover program.

“We understand that the Montgomery plant is a big commitment by Mountain Top, and we stand ready to support them in every way,” Mayor Steven Reed said.

Arthur DuCote, chairman of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, said Mountain Top Industries joins a growing list of international companies in the region.

“To have a leading global manufacturer choose our community for their first ever North American facility speaks volumes about what Montgomery has to offer,” DuCote said. “We are excited to welcome Mountain Top to Montgomery and make them part of our growing community.”
