Alabama Techstars alums Resilient Power Systems and Elektrik to compete in pitch competition

Two recent Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator alums will join with eight other startups from around the country to share their business cases with potential investors this week.

Resilient Power Systems and Elektrik are set to participate in the Initiate program’s pitch competition on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at noon. The program is part of DISTRIBUTECH’s monthly education series on all things transmission and distribution from the energy sector.

Resilient Power Systems is a startup out of Atlanta, Georgia that serves as a building block to reduce grid infrastructure upgrade costs related to electric vehicles and clean energy. Elektrik is an online marketplace for the electrical equipment industry, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Dec. 16 event will include a panel discussion starting at 10 a.m. on “Utility of the Future: How the Power Sector is Embracing Open Innovation,” covering energy companies’ innovation strategies and effective startup partnerships.

Virtual attendees will hear insights from Alabama Power New Ventures Manager Alan Bates, Evergy Ventures Managing Director Brock Smith and San Antonio-based CPS Energy Vice President of Digital and Data Transformation Jatinder Singh. Plug and Play Tech Center Director Payal Patel will moderate the panel.

Resilient Power Systems and Elektrik recently wrapped up a 13-week long endeavor as part of the first class of the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator. The accelerator focuses on startups building technologies and business models to enhance the future of energy, including microgrid solutions and smart home software.

The Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator is supported by Alabama Power, the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA), the Alabama Department of Commerce, Altec, PowerSouth and the University of Alabama. They play a key role in the accelerator process, with the common goal of growing the number of startup companies based in Alabama.
