Alabama Power crews assist Texas storm restoration

Alabama Power crews assist crews from Oncor in Texas to restore service to customers in the Lone Star State. (contributed)
The winter blast that paralyzed Texas earlier this month is over, but electricity is just now coming back to some communities where Alabama Power crews are providing assistance.
More than 300 lineworkers and support personnel made the trip to east Texas last weekend, overcoming travel delays due to icy road conditions in western Louisiana.
Alabama Power’s work has been centered in Nacogdoches and Lufkin. Lufkin is about 115 miles north of Houston, while Nacogdoches is 20 miles north of Lufkin. Most of the restoration involved replacing lines brought down by the weight of ice, although there were several broken poles and crossarms that needed replaced. Assisting Oncor, the crews had many “rear lot” assignments where access was not direct.
In the first couple of days, Alabama Power personnel strung more than 300 spans of wire and replaced 22 poles and 25 transformers.
With operations wrapping up, the Alabama Power crews expect to be on the way home soon.
Thank you to our mutual assistance partners from @alabamapower for their continued help in restoring customers following this week’s severe winter weather. Work will continue around the clock until all customers who can safely receive power have been restored. pic.twitter.com/UfTBiqzRXe
