Shamrocks & Shenanigan Virtual 4 Mile Run Walk
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with runners from all 50 states and around the world. Complete each distance one at a time or, if you’re feeling lucky, complete all 4 miles. Either way, wear your finest St. Patrick’s Day attire and have fun. The virtual event can be completed through Wednesday, March 31. Virtual runs and walks will be in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery. Tickets start at $29.
OWA welcomes back the furry friends of Coastal Alabama to its 4th Annual St. Pawtty’s Day event in partnership with the Baldwin County Animal Shelter on Saturday, March 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The family-friendly and socially distanced event is free to attend and includes music, a pet parade, dog adoptions and a pet costume contest. For $10, guests can enter their pet into the pet parade and costume contest with proceeds donated to the Baldwin County Animal Shelter. Registration for the parade and costume contest will begin at 1 p.m. with the parade beginning at 2 p.m. Immediately following the parade through Downtown OWA in Foley, the pet-friendly costume contest will take place at the OWA Island stage where OWA will crown Mr. & Mrs. St. Pawtty’s Day, Most Creative, Dynamic Duo and OWA Choice. The Baldwin County Animal Shelter will host an onsite adoption during the event. During this special afternoon of celebration, OWA will cover half the adoption fee, bringing the fee down to $35. The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, rabies shot and tag, up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and flea treatment. Live and fuzzy bunnies will be at The Wharf in Orange Beach March 13-14, 20-21, 27-28 and April 2-3 for professional, keepsake Easter photos. Wear your best Easter attire and choose from multiple backdrops. Various price packages are available. Photos will have a socially distant setup inside and masks will be encouraged while waiting in line.
Orange Beach Festival of Art
The 47th annual juried fine art festival will feature more than 100 artists, gourmet culinary fare, music stage, performing arts stage and kids crafts March 13-14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no entrance fee for the show. Annual Rainbow Run
Join the fun and go for a run at OWA’s 2nd Annual Rainbow Run Saturday, March 13, in Foley. The 1.5-mile run is full of excitement as rainbow-colored powder fills the air and covers the participants jogging, walking or sprinting through the streets. Runners will take off into these clouds of fun colors at 9 a.m. and make their way throughout OWA, where they will encounter more rainbow color stations until finally ending the race on OWA Island. Register for $29.99 through Friday, March 12. The registration fee includes entry into the race, a white Rainbow Run T-shirt, OWA swag and complimentary scratch-off cards featuring prizes redeemable in Downtown OWA.
American Village
The 5th Annual Festival of Tulips opens this week with safety measures in place. The event will be entirely outdoors. Eight new varieties and blends of tulips have been planted this year: City of Vancouver, White Hot, Wheels Up, Purdy, Yellow Cubed, Mira Mira, Globo Rojo and Judy Beauty. Admission is $5. Veterans and children ages 4 and under are free. Tulips, including the bulb, are $1.50 each plus tax. Masks are required. Visitors will park by the field so shuttles will not be necessary. Entertainment and children’s games will be offered in the tulip field. Festival of Tulips merchandise, water and Coca-Cola will be available for purchase in the tulip tent. Celebrate Vegas
Legends in Concert will feature Celebrate Vegas through Sunday, May 30, at the OWA Theater in Foley. The award-winning show will feature tributes to four artists who have had the greatest impact on the entertainment capital of the world over the last 60 years. The lineup will include tributes to the stars of the original residencies in Las Vegas — the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra, and the King of Rock‘n’Roll, Elvis Presley, portrayed by Brian Duprey and Leo Days, respectively. Lisa McClowry as Cher will make you “Believe,” while Erika Moul will pay homage to Lady Gaga, the hottest ticket on the strip in recent years. Magic City Classic tickets
Tickets are on sale for the highly anticipated 79th annual Magic City Classic rivalry game at Birmingham’s Legion Field between Alabama A&M and Alabama State on Saturday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. This year, fans will see a lot of changes around the festivities due to COVID-19 restrictions, including face coverings.
