Scott Martin: Showers end in Alabama this morning; great weather Sunday

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A few spotty showers will move across the state during the first half of Saturday before the activity finally pushes out and over into Georgia. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with highs ranging from the lower 60s in the north and northwest to the upper 60s in the south and southeast.
Sunday, we can expect mostly sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures. Afternoon highs will be in the mid-60s to the lower 70s.
THE WORK WEEK: Monday and Tuesday will be dry with mild temperatures. Skies will be mainly sunny on Monday with highs in the lower to mid-70s. Tuesday will have a few more clouds and highs ranging from the lower 70s in the northwest to the upper 70s in the southeast.
A cold front will sweep through on Wednesday morning, mainly from before dawn to right after sunrise, but there will be hardly any moisture with it. A few locations in the northern half of the state may see a few sprinkles to a brief light shower very early, but nearly everyone will remain dry. Skies will be mostly sunny and it will be breezy at times. Highs will be in the lower 60s to the lower 70s.
Temperatures will start to make a quick rebound at the end of the week. Thursday will be bright and sunny with highs in the upper 60s to the mid-70s. Friday will be warmer still, but a passing impulse will bring some clouds and a very small chance of a passing shower, mainly during the morning. Highs will range from the lower 70s in the northwest to the upper 70s in the southeast.
HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX: The good news for the NTT IndyCar Series return to Birmingham at Barber Motorsports Park is that there is a sellout for Sunday’s main event. Skies will be mostly cloudy Saturday at the track with a chance of a passing shower or two before midday, but will be dry and cool after that. Temperatures will start off around 52 degrees when the gates open and will top out around only 64 degrees Saturday. Sunday will be a little warmer with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be around 50 degrees at the start of the day and will be just short of 70 degrees for the afternoon high.
ON THIS DATE IN 1922: A family of at least six tornadoes caused death and destruction along parts of a 210-mile path from north of Ogden, Illinois, to Allen County, Ohio, killing 16 people. A postcard picked up in Madison County, Indiana, was found 124 miles away near Mount Cory, Ohio.
