Alabama 50th Anniversary Tour

Celebrate 50 years of music with Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook. The multiplatinum-selling country group will perform Saturday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. The group reeled off 21 straight No. 1 singles, a record that may never be equaled in any genre. They brought youthful energy, sex appeal and a rocking edge that broadened country’s audience and opened the door to self-contained bands, and they undertook a journey that led, 73 million album sales later, to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ musical in Mobile

Celebrate the 60th season of Playhouse in the Park in Mobile with the musical production “Beauty and the Beast.” This is the theater’s first big production after being closed for more than a year due to the pandemic. The final shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available here.

Secret Stages

Secret Stages is a two-day music discovery festival that features more than 30 musical acts performing on three stages in Birmingham’s Avondale neighborhood Aug. 6-7. Emerging artists from Birmingham, throughout the Southeast and as far away as Chicago and New York City will perform on stages at Avondale Brewing Company, Saturn and Black Tie CBD. Fun Friday at The Wharf

The Wharf in Orange Beach is hosting its final Fun Friday Aug. 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Don’t miss out on life-size board games like Jenga and Connect 4, bubbles and cornhole. DJ Silky will be spinning sing-along tunes with a chance to win a prize. The Sugar Shack is offering a 10% discount on ice cream to anyone who mentions “Fun Friday.” Because safety is of the utmost importance, The Wharf encourages guests to adhere to social-distancing guidelines. For visitors’ convenience, hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the property.

Caribbean Day at OWA 

Pay tribute to Caribbean heritage and culture with a live art competition, music, vendors, drum clinics, stilt walkers and more. Kids’ activities will include hair-braiding, pineapple bowling, a hula hoop contest, sand art and a photo wall. The free event is from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 in Downtown OWA in Foley. Dex Daley and JAM-X will take the OWA Island Stage at 4 p.m. and perform a blend of reggae, ska and Caribbean roots music featuring steel drums. The Defrosters will close out the live music for the evening at 8:30 p.m. Complimentary brewed Mango Tango or Blue Raspberry Crush tea will be available while supplies last between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. at The Spice & Tea Exchange. An Evening of Love concert

Harry Connick Jr. and his Band – Time to Play!

Black Belt Birding Festival

The Black Belt Birding Festival is Saturday, Aug. 7, in Greensboro. While some events are sold out, there will be two free offerings open to all: an art exhibit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aaron Sanders Head Studio and a vendor expo from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alabama Audubon office, 1014 Whelan St., with a food truck onsite from noon until 2 p.m. For more information, visit alaudubon.org/blackbeltfestival.

Shoes and Brews Cornhole Tournament

Support Firehouse Ministries, which helps Birmingham’s chronically homeless male population. For a $50 registration fee, participants can play in round robin style with double-elimination playoffs and a cash prize. In exchange for the donation of a pair of new or gently used shoes, attendees will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes from local businesses, or tickets can be purchased for $5. A few of the raffle prizes and tournament prizes are: Orange Theory Homewood classes, Birmingham Barons tickets, a $50 gift box from Buff City Soap and gift cards to local businesses, including a $250 gift card to Ocean/5 Point Public House, dinner for two at The Yard at The Elyton Hotel, a $50 gift card to The Collins Bar and a $20 gift card to Cookie Fix. Firehouse Shelter serves more homeless men than any agency in Alabama and operates the broadest, most comprehensive continuum of services for Birmingham’s homeless. Firehouse offers emergency services, including a soup kitchen open to everyone, clothing closet, case management and emergency shelter, as well as many housing options. The pet- and family-friendly fun is Saturday, Aug. 7 from noon to 7 p.m. at Cahaba Brewing.

Lutzie 43 Road Race

Honor the memory of the late Philip Lutzenkirchen, a former Auburn football player who lost his life in a car accident. The Lutzie 43 Foundation’s 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative aims to create the first nationally recognized symbol for distracted and impaired driving awareness and prevention. The foundation’s motto for youths is to “Live like Lutz, Love like Lutz and Learn from Lutz,” reflecting its desire to help others live out the many positive character attributes that Lutzenkirchen displayed while learning from the circumstances that led to his death. The Lutzie 43 Foundation will host its annual Lutzie 43 Road Race featuring a 5K and kids 1-mile fun run Saturday, Aug. 7 at 7 a.m. The venue is at 2601 Shallowford Road in Marietta, Georgia.
