Alabama Power wins two Stevie Awards for inaugural corporate sustainability report
Alabama Power has won two Stevie Awards for its inaugural web-based corporate sustainability report in the 18th Annual International Business Awards (IBA) program. Winners were selected from more than 3,700 nominations submitted by organizations in 65 countries.
Alabama Power won a Gold Stevie, the highest award, in the utilities category while receiving a Silver Stevie in the energy category for websites.
“These recognitions are a direct result of the company’s longstanding dedication to the pillars of sustainability and the project team’s commitment to excellence in issuing this inaugural report,” said Stephanie Cooper, Alabama Power vice president of Corporate Sustainability. “Each opportunity we have to power the company’s sustainability narrative forward will help further establish our identity in this rapidly evolving space.”
Alabama Power released its first corporate sustainability report in April, detailing the company’s efforts to meet the needs of its customers, employees and communities to create a more prosperous state. The report focuses on five pillars: People, Environment, Social Responsibility, Governance and Innovation. The inaugural report was developed with Cayenne Creative, a full-service strategic branding, advertising and design firm in Birmingham.
The IBAs that Alabama Power won are known as “the International Stevies” and are open to organizations large and small, public and private, for profit and nonprofit. More than 260 executives from around the world participated on 11 juries to choose this year’s Stevie winners. The 2021 awards will be presented Dec. 8 during a virtual awards gala.
The Stevie Awards were created in 2002 to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and people across the globe. The name Stevie is taken from Stephen, which is derived from the Greek word for “crowned.” Previous winners are a who’s who of internationally known businesses, including Apple, BASF, Ford Motor Co., Proctor & Gamble, Samsung and many others.
