Alabama Power’s Louise Duncan receives Diversity Leader Award
Alabama Power Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager Louise Duncan was recently named a Diversity Leader at the Minority Business Awards, held by Birmingham-based Summit Media.
The annual event celebrates the spirit, creativity and resourcefulness of Birmingham’s brightest minority business leaders, students and young professionals.
Duncan began her career with the company in 1998 as a co-op in the Electrical Field Services organization. She has since demonstrated a genuine passion for employee development, a sharp focus on organizational culture and dedication to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at Alabama Power.
In addition to leading Alabama Power’s Council on Culture and Inclusion, Duncan is a member of the company’s Leadership Development Council, as well as a mentor for the Southern Company Future Leaders Program.
She is active in community and professional organizations, including the American Association of Black Engineers (AABE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“It is an honor to be recognized among leaders in the Birmingham business community,” said Duncan. “I’m proud of Alabama Power’s culture focus and work to advance DE&I efforts in our workplace and in the communities we serve.”
Also recognized at the virtual event were Alabama Power employees Julian Grant, who is a Community Development specialist and finalist for Outstanding Young Professional award, and Staci Brooks, director of Marketing and Communication, a finalist for Executive of the Year award.
