When you’re an established restaurant with a fine-dining pedigree like Daniel George (also known as dg) in Mountain Brook, the last thing you want to be is trendy.

When the restaurant started serving its Chocolate Lava Cake many years ago, it was still a rare delicacy.

These days, you can get one in the freezer section of the grocery store or delivered with your pizza.

So, why does Daniel George keep it on its menu?

“We’ve continued to do it because it’s still good,” said Daniel Briggs, owner of Daniel George. “And it still makes people happy and it’s a wonderful end to a meal.”

It made the folks at the Alabama Tourism Department so happy, they put it on their list of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama.
