Dothan Warehouse plans to invest $8 million to expand its facility in Houston County in the second phase of a growth project, creating 25 jobs and broadening the commercial hub’s capabilities, according to the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.

Phase 2 of the expansion calls for Dothan Warehouse to enlarge its warehouse space by 30,000 square feet and double its trailer parking capacity. The first phase of the project, valued at $20 million, expanded the facility’s footprint by 75,000 square feet.

“Dothan Warehouse’s expansion will provide a boost to the Wiregrass’ logistics and distribution cluster and open the region to more investment opportunities in the food and beverage sectors,” said Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “With its diverse dry, cold and freezer storage portfolio, Dothan Warehouse’s project complements our efforts to spark growth in many critical sectors of Alabama’s economy.

“Adding additional freezer storage capacity positions the facility to offer these services to new food-related companies needing blast-freezing capabilities. We are excited to see them continue to invest in Alabama,” Canfield said.

Growth plans

Founded in 1980, Dothan Warehouse provides full-service, third-party logistics services to clients in Alabama and internationally. The facility’s strategic location places it at a competitive advantage because of proximity to major ports in the Southeast.

Currently, the company uses 845,000 square feet of dry storage space, 185,000 square feet of cold storage space and 100,000 square feet of frozen storage space.

Dothan Warehouse’s expansion stems from the increased output of the region’s poultry industry, but the facility also has the capability to store and distribute specialized products, including those produced by the biopharma industry.

“We appreciate the strong support we have received from the Alabama Department of Commerce, AIDT, city of Dothan, Houston County, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce/Grow Dothan, the Industrial Development Board of the city of Dothan, Wallace Community College and Southeast AlabamaWorks,” said Dothan Warehouse President Turner Jones.

Local impact

Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba said Dothan Warehouse’s investment will help diversify the region economy.

“As we continue to enhance our community’s infrastructure, we are excited to see companies like Dothan Warehouse succeed in the distribution, warehousing and logistics industry,” he said.

Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver welcomed Dothan Warehouse’s expansion project and its financial impact.

“Their continued investment is further proof we are building a business climate to spur growth in the Wiregrass region,” he said.
