Cinco de Mayo
Join ¡HICA! for its Cinco de Mayo Open House Thursday, May 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. See the agency’s new mural and hear stories and the latest news about ¡HICA!, a community development and advocacy organization that champions economic equality, civic engagement and social justice for Latino families in Alabama. Food and drinks will be provided. ¡HICA! is located at 117 Southcrest Drive in Birmingham. Registration is required.
Cullman Strawberry Festival
The Cullman Strawberry Festival features live music, arts and crafts, food vendors, rides, a vintage car show, pageants for humans and dogs, a baking competition, games and fresh strawberries. Mozart and Brahms at the Alys Stephens Center
- May 6 – Mozart’s “40th Symphony”: Featuring iconic melodies of heart-sweeping passion, this Alabama Symphony Orchestra concert will illustrate some of the darkest times of the famed composer in the final summer of his life. The concert at the Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Buy tickets.
- May 6-7 – Mozart’s “40th Symphony” and Brahms’ “First Piano Concerto”: Along with Mozart’s 40th, Steven Spooner joins the orchestra for a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto, a virtuosic weaving of piano and orchestra. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Comments giving insight into the music will be made each night at 6:15 p.m. in the Alys Stephens Center’s Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall. Buy tickets.

Decorators’ ShowHouse
Another way to support the Alabama Symphony Orchestra is through the Decorators’ ShowHouse annual fundraiser through Sunday, May 8. Visitors will enjoy the visual treats of the 565-acre Hallmark Farms in north Jefferson County. Parking is provided at the property for $5. Strollers, food and beverages are not allowed in the home. Photographs of the interior are not allowed. Food trucks will be on-site daily. Tickets allow entry only on the date printed on the ticket. Buy tickets online.
Mother’s Day Weekend at OWA
Moms just want to have fun at Tropic Falls Theme Park at OWA in Foley. All-day passes are buy one, get one free for mom. The offer is valid May 6-8 for in-person purchases only. The free ticket will expire the day of purchase and cannot be combined with other special events, promotions or discounts. Kids can make mom complimentary gifts, such as coloring a gift bag or Mother’s Day appreciation card from crafts May 7-8 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the OWA splash pad and the alcove outside the Clash eSports Center. Celebrate Mother’s Day at the Montgomery Zoo
