Jewish Food and Culture Fest
The Jewish Food and Culture Fest is back after a two-year pandemic hiatus. One of Birmingham’s favorite outdoor food events will celebrate Jewish culture and traditions Sunday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy foods like brisket, falafel, corned beef, matzah ball soup and more. Entertainment includes live music, the Tickled Pink Petting Zoo, improv comedy from Etc. (the Extemporaneous Theater Company), bounce houses and the Alabama National Guard’s rock-climbing wall. The event will also celebrate Israel’s 74th Yom Ha’Atzmaut (independence day) with a display of banners to take visitors on a “tour” through Israel. For more information, call 205-879-0411. Regions Tradition Golf Tournament

Magic City Wine Fest
Kick off the weekend at the Magic City Wine Fest Saturday, May 14, from 6-9 p.m. at the Birmingham Zoo. The annual event will feature wine and beer from a variety of regions. To complement the wine fest, enjoy food from a variety of restaurants and live entertainment. Attendees must be 21 or older. The proceeds will benefit the Birmingham Zoo. Homestead Hollow
Springville is known for good food and entertainment at its annual spring arts and crafts festival. See the finest in homemade arts and crafts, cabins from the 1800s, demonstrations of blacksmithing, whiskey-making and other activities. Kids will have plenty to do on the playground with rides and a petting zoo. The festival will be May 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for children ages 2 and younger. Only service dogs are allowed. Prattville’s Cruisin’ Car Show
Convertibles of any make or model are welcome at the “Cruisin’ with the Top Down” car show Sunday, May 15, from 1-4 p.m. Although convertibles are featured, other types of vehicles are also welcome. There will be music, food and prize giveaways. There is no charge for the car show, but reservations are required due to limited space. Cars entered must remain on the premises throughout the show. The car show will be at Heritage Park by the Autauga Creek Dam on Court Street in the beautiful, historic Prattville downtown district. Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival
Make plans for an adventurous weekend at the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival in Foley May 12-14.The festival will have live music, entertainment, arts and crafts displays plus tethered rides, weather permitting. The event will showcase more than 50 balloons with pilots from across the country. Catch the Balloon Glow, weather and wind permitting, beginning around dusk. Off-site shuttle locations will be available at Tanger Outlets, Liberty Church and Irwin Square. Park off-site and ride the shuttle from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday. For the complete list of activities, visit gulfcoastballoonfestival.com. Helena’s Buck Creek Festival
The annual Buck Creek Festival is May 13-14 at the Helena Amphitheater Park. Entertainment includes live music, toy duck race, food, crafts and children’s activities. Thousands of toy ducks will take the plunge on the banks of Buck Creek, but only one will emerge as the winner. Admission is free. Only service animals are allowed. Hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. The banks of Buck Creek are just below the dam. For more information, visit buckcreekfestival.com.
Sozo Children’s Choir
Sozo Children, a Birmingham-based ministry serving the needs of vulnerable children in Uganda, will celebrate 12 years of service Friday, May 13, at the Lyric Theatre. The choir performs upbeat Christian worship songs and African cultural music in a family-friendly performance filled with singing, dancing and testimonies. On Saturday, May 14, Sozo will host its 11th annual Run for a Reason 5K through the streets of the Avondale community with a special treat after the race when the Sozo Children’s Choir performs at Avondale Brewing. Vulcan Park and Museum walking tours
Great designs from the past make Forest Park a favorite among architects and designers. The mixture of house size and architectural style are unusual in modern times, creating a richness and scale that make Forest Park one of the jewels of the South. The tour will be Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
