Scott Martin: A few showers for Alabama Saturday; rain chances increase on Sunday

THIS WEEKEND: Ridging will continue to hold strong over the state Saturday. That will keep it hot and humid, with very little in the way of shower and thunderstorm chances for the afternoon and evening. Highs will top out in the lower to mid 90s.

A weak trough will begin to move toward us on Sunday that will bring a higher chance for scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms to Alabama. A strong storm or two may be possible. Highs will be in the lower to mid 90s.

NEXT WEEK: Rain chances will stay elevated on Monday as that weak trough begins to move westward through the state. Scattered showers and storms will be possible, especially during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

We’ll continue to have a good chance of scattered showers and storms on Tuesday, especially during the afternoon and evening, as the trough continues to slowly move through. Highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

Another stronger trough will work into the state late Wednesday that will bring an elevated chance of scattered to numerous showers and storms late into the afternoon and evening, with some activity continuing overnight. Highs will be in the mid 80s to the lower 90s.

The trough will swing a front through the state on Thursday that will continue to bring an elevated chance of scattered to numerous showers and storms. Highs will be in the mid 80s to the lower 90s.

Friday will be very nice, with a good bit of sunshine and only a very small chance of an isolated shower or storm. Highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

TROPICS: All remains calm across the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea and the tropical Atlantic Ocean, and no new tropical systems are expected to form over the next five days.
