Recipe: Apple Dumplings
When it comes to apple desserts, it takes a lot to impress me. I’m just not a huge fan of the texture of a cooked apple, but that was before I met my friend called apple dumpling. She’s warm, sweet and a little flaky, but hey … who isn’t these days?
Seriously, these little babies are my all-time favorite apple dessert. They are warm, gooey and the crunchy part with the sugar on top … good gracious. And easy – it really probably couldn’t get any easier. You put some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream with these babies and prepare to be amazed. I know it sounds weird with the Sprite and all, but just trust me.
These things will make your tongue slap your brains out, as my sweet BigMama used to say.

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 35 minutes
Serves: 8 dumplings
Ingredients
- 1 apple
- 1 (8-ounce) 8-count tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough
- ½ cup butter, melted
- ¾ cups sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1½ tablespoons flour
- 6 ounces Sprite
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and lightly spray an 8-by-8-inch or 9-by-9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Core and peel apple into eight slices. (I used one of those handy little apple slicers and got the job done in one whack.)
- Open can of crescent rolls and unroll.
- Place one apple slice on the wide end of one crescent and roll it up in the crescent. Place into the prepared dish. Continue with other rolls.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, cinnamon and flour and mix until just combined.
- Spoon over each crescent.
- Pour Sprite into empty space in the middle of pan (not over the crescents).
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until crescents are golden brown.
- Serve warm with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
