Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball to play Wake Forest in charity exhibition game at Birmingham’s Boutwell Auditorium
The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team will play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in an exhibition game in Birmingham’s historic Boutwell Auditorium on Oct. 18.
The charity exhibition game, which will benefit Children’s of Alabama, is being presented by Nike and Hibbett and is branded Bama in Boutwell.
“We are excited to partner with Wake Forest for this meaningful event that goes beyond basketball,” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to play in Birmingham against a quality program in Wake Forest and give back to Children’s of Alabama.”
Birmingham-based Hibbett sporting goods retailer partnered with athletic giant Nike to present the game. Birmingham’s Knight Eady Sports Group will manage the event.
Because the game will be in Boutwell, seating will be configured differently from a typical basketball arena setting and will be able to seat about 2,000 fans.
“On behalf of a very, very grateful city, we’re truly, truly honored to be in a position to host this exhibition game between the University of Alabama and Wake Forest,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said.
Fans can sign up for presale tickets at BamainBoutwell.com. Presale begins Sept. 10 and any remaining tickets will go on sale to the public on Sept. 12. A tipoff time will be announced later.
Wake Forest defeated Alabama 88-80 in an exhibition game last season. Alabama is 2-5 all-time against Wake Forest.
Alabama has also announced a charity exhibition against Memphis to be played in Huntsville’s VBC Propst Arena on Oct. 28.
