Alabama Power has been lauded by the U.S. Department of Energy for assisting a federal program boosting energy efficiency nationwide.

For the past three years, the DOE’s Better Buildings Neighborhood Program (BBNP) has worked with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to implement a BBNP grant in Birmingham. Alabama Power has assisted those efforts.

“We have been briefed repeatedly about how fantastic Alabama Power has been throughout the process. The work has helped make this program flourish in Birmingham,” said BBNP Project Officer Lani MacRae.

Alabama Power employees have also been involved in promoting Birmingham WISE (Worthwhile Investments Save Energy). The program is dedicated to helping Jefferson and Shelby county homeowners improve energy efficiency, lower utility bills and create healthier, more comfortable homes. During the program’s inception, energy experts from Alabama Power conducted free audits and informed homeowners about how they can benefit from WISE services.

“We look for every opportunity to help our customers and provide any information we can to help them be more energy efficient,” said Don Scivley, vice president of Marketing.

The Alabama Power residential marketing team helped promote the WISE program to HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) contractors. A WISE representative instructed marketing representatives on the program and the employees created new partnerships and generated client referrals.

“Alabama Power has not hesitated in helping us reach the Birmingham community to encourage energy efficiency,” said MacRae. “Thank you for your support and involvement.”
