What: The Renew Our Rivers and Village Creek Society cleanup
will be Thursday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 21. On
Sept.19 and 20, volunteers will meet at Avenue F and 10th
Street, Ensley, to do an “in-creek” cleanup. On Sept. 21,
an “out of creek” cleanup will take place. Volunteers will
meet at Moro Park, Avenue M and 11th Street in Ensley. It
will be followed by a picnic lunch.
Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s
largest river cleanups, have collected more than 10
million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s
inception in 2000. This year, 30 cleanups are planned
through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior,
Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa
rivers and various lakes throughout the state.
